Salem is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. The town’s name was taken from Salem, Massachusetts and its motto and town seal is "Industry, Commerce, Recreation". First settled in 1652, Salem became incorporated in 1750. Rockingham Park, Canobie Lake Amusement Park, Canobie Lake and America's Stonehenge are all located in Salem. The town is also home to many colleges, recreation areas and the Mall at Rockingham Park. Salem contains 24.8 square miles of land and 1.1 square miles of water. The town’s population in 1790 was 1,218. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Salem’s population in 2000 was 28,112, which included 10,402 households and 7,603 families. The estimated population in 2004 was 23,399. In 2007, it was estimated that Salem’s population was 29,495. Salem Real Estate and Homes: In 2007, Salem real estate was comprised of 12,094 total homes.
