Laconia is located in Belknap County, New Hampshire.  It is part of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and is the ninth largest city in the state.  It includes the villages of Lakeport and Weirs Beach.  Laconia is bordered by Lake Winnipesaukee and the town of Meredith on the north, by Winnisquam Lake on the west, the town of Gilford on the east, and the towns of Belmont and Gilford on the south.  It is located 45 miles from Manchester.

Laconia is a popular four-season tourist destination.  It is home to the 3.7 acre Bartlett Beach and many parks.  The town hosts the annual Laconia Motorcycle Week, which is one of the country’s largest motorcycle rallies.  It also hosts the Laconia World Championship Sled Dog Derby every winter.

Laconia is home to the Laconia School District, which includes three elementary schools, one middle school and one public high school.  It is also home to a branch of the New Hampshire Technical Colleges.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Laconia was home to 16,411 residents.  This included 6,724 households and 4,168 families.  The average family size was 2.87 and the average household size was 2.32.  Laconia is comprised of 20.3 square miles of land and 6.3 square miles of water.
