Gilsum is a located in Cheshire County, New Hampshire, and includes Gilsum Lower Village.  It is home to the Bears Den Geological State Park, Gilsum Historical Society Museum, Vessel Rock and Ashuelot Gorge.  It is also home to the Stone Arch Bridge, which was completed in 1863 and added to the National Register in 1989.

Gilsum was first named "Boyle" after the Earl of Burlington, Richard Boyle.  It was then rechartered as “Gilsum” in 1763.  It is said that the name was derived by combining the names of the town major families, Gilbert and Sumner.

Gilsum offer outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping and fishing at nearby parks and lakes.  It also offers shopping and great restaurants.

According to the 2000 U. S. Census Bureau, Gilsum’s population was 777 people.  This included 310 households and 220 families.
